Hoyt Roberson

ETOWAH — Hoyt Roberson, 90 passed away Sept. 7, 2018, at Etowah Health Care. He was a long time resident of McMinn County, and was the son of the late W.M. and Willa Mae Roberson. He was preceded in death by one sister; Billie Scarbrough and five brothers, James, Charles, Ralph, Roy and Paul. He was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon and usher. Hoyt loved his Lord and Savior and his church. Hoyt owned and operated, along with his wife Martha Dean, the Etowah Dry Cleaners for 35 and a half years, along with serving on various committees in McMinn County. He served in the McMinn County Election Commission Board, McMinn County Educational Task force with Dr. John Forgety, Etowah Housing Board, Etowah Lions Club, Etowah Masons, Shriners and was a member of American Legion. He was instrumental on organizing the Etowah Chamber of Commerce and underwriting and funding the start of Woods Memorial Hospital now called Starr Regional Medical Center. Hoyt served in the military, U.S. Air Force from 1952 through 1956 during the Korean War. He served at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas under base adjacent and was attached to flight 986 in ground communications. He was then transferred to Elemendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK, where he received top security clearance to work on systems which served to provide early warnings of incoming Soviet bombers both land and sea. Hoyt leaves behind his wife of 69 years, Martha Dean Roberson; two daughters and husbands; Ralph and Debra Jones, Tony and Donna Hitch; four grand children; Josh and Kati Thurman, Hannah Snyder, Eric and Ruth Hitch, and Justin Hitch; four Great-grandchildren; Noah Snyder, Carly Snyder, Kaitlyn Hitch, and Ethan Hitch; one brother, Richard Roberson; along with other numerous family members and special friends, Rebecca Brownlow, Rual Watson, Gayle Ernsting, and Cathy Rayburn. The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Watters, Dr. Sam Olsen, Etowah Health Care, Amedysis Home Health and Hospice for their love and excellent care. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at North Etowah Baptist Church Sept. 10, 2018. The family and friends will assemble at Bordwine Funeral Home at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, and proceed to Mars Hill Cemetery for the 11 a.m. graveside service with Dr. Jimmy McCarter and Layspeaker Dennis Bordwine officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Hitch, Ralph Jones, Josh Thurman, Jeff Roberson, Phillip Roberson, Rual Watson, Sam Ferguson and Jerry Ferguson. Honorary Pall bearers will be Hoyt’s North Etowah Sunday School Class. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to Wesley Memorial Food Bank, P.O. 306 Etowah, TN 37331.
