Avon Gaylor

Avon Mynatt Gaylor, 92 of Signal Mountain passed away on Sept. 22, 2018. Avon was a veteran of WWII and served with the United States Army Air Corps as a Gunner in a B-29. He was stationed in both Guam and Saipan. He was a member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church for 57 years and a lifetime deacon. He and his wife Mary Ruth delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. Avon graduated the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor’s Degree. He worked for and retired from TVA where he worked as a computer programmer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Ruth Gaylor, and a daughter, Sue Boyd. Left behind to cherish Avon’s memory are his sons, Gary (Robin) Gaylor, Joe Gaylor, both of Chattanooga, and John (Merry) Gaylor, Huntsville, AL., seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, son-in-law, David Boyd, many nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends. A Celebration of Avon’s Life will be held at the Signal Mountain Baptist Church on Monday September 24, 2018, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sally Ensley officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. He will be laid to rest with his wife in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
