Jesse Gravitt

Jesse Cecil Gravitt, 93, of Lookout Mountain, passed away Tuesday - Feb. 5, 2019. He was born in the Vulcan community to Barthow Carter and Mary Grider Gravitt. He was a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain and was of the Church of God and Pentecostal faith. He was an Army veteran having served during WWII and retired from Chris-Craft and Rockwell International. Jesse was a master mechanic and handy-man who used his abilities to serve the Lord by helping build the Lookout Mountain Church of God. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby Lusk, Emma Cates, Willis Gravitt, Mildred Morrow and Harold Gravitt. Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Margaret Smith Gravitt, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; their children, Danny M. Gravitt Sr., Joy Anita (Alan) Slaven, Stan Cecil (Susie) Gravitt, all of Lookout Mountain, Ga., Lonnie Wayne Gravitt, of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.; sister, Delaphene Simmons; brother, Charles Gravitt, both of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday and prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. – Friday - Feb. 8, 2019, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Pastor Terry Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
