Pauline Johnson

Pauline Azelea Leath Johnson, born March 16, 1950, entered the Holy Gates of Heaven on Feb. 16, 2019. She was greeted by her parents, the late Leroy and Elizabeth Leath, Sister Rose Kern, Brother James Gordon Leath and her namesake aunt Pauline Tatum. Pauline, affectionately called Polly, was a 1969 graduate of Riverside High School. She furthered her education at Chattanooga Vocational School in Cosmetology where she completed a degree in Cosmetology. Polly worked as a beautician from 1979 until her retirement. She was an active member of Gamma Theta Sigma Philos until her health fell. As a beautician for many years, Polly was also a very loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. Polly always looked forward to her birthday celebration which her dear friend Delores Lewis Hosted her family and friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church for many years. She served on The Someone to Care Ministry, Hospitality Ministry, and faithfully attended Sunday school until her health failed. Polly is survived by her devoted son, Samuel Clinton McDaniel, III (Tynese), Arlington, Tenn.; four devoted grandchildren, Samantha McDaniel and Keyora Bush, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Samuel LaBron McDaniel, of Chickamauga, Ga., Samuel Clinton McDaniel IV, of Knoxville, Tenn.; three adored great-grandchildren, Emani Grant, Eric Grant Jr., and Mila McDaniel; one beloved sister, Anita Leath Jones; five dedicated brothers, Leroy (Sharon) Leath, Randall (Shelia) Leath, Michael Leath, David Leath, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and John Leath, of Cordova, Tenn.; 10 dear nieces Roshelle Leath, Jonita Travis, Jamia Leath, Talia Leath, Miconde Leath, and Betty Leath, of Chattanooga, Ashlee Leath, of Charlotte, N.C., Rachel Leath, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Autumn Caldwell, of Paducah, Ky., and Lizabeth Leath, of Atlanta, Ga.; six loving nephews, Donald Leath, Jonathan Travis, Jonathan Leath, Leroy Leath, Clifton Leath, and Michael Leath Jr., of Chattanooga; many great-nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special great-nephew, Jordan Smith; a very devoted cousin, Jackie Clark; and loyal friends, Delores Lewis, Yvonne Kinamore, and Gamma Theta Sigma Philos. The body will lie-in-state after 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Union Hill Baptist Church. Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens on Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. Arrangements by John P.
