Noah Burnette

Noah Dean Burnette, 80, of East Ridge and formerly of Etowah, Tenn., passed away after a mercifully brief illness on Jan. 11, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Massey Burnette; his parents, Noah Horace Burnett and Anna Elizabeth Duggan Burnett; his siblings, Dan Burnette, Jane Walker, and Sue Derrick; his step-mother and two half brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Amy S. Burnette of Woodstock, Georgia; son, Robert D. (Rebecca) Burnette of Chattanooga; grandson, Jackson C. Burnette of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister, Elizabeth Burnette Mayfield of Hixson, Tennessee; many loving nieces and nephews. A resident of Chattanooga most of his adult life, he also loved his farm in Chattanooga Valley and spent a great deal of time there hunting and enjoying the company of family and friends. Dean left Etowah after high school to embark on his lifelong career as a self-made, successful businessman. He had a brief stint with Combustion Engineering before operating his own business for over 50 years. He joined his uncle and cousin in their established business, Duggan & Duggan; became a partner in their firm; and then established his own structural steel detailing firm, N.D. Burnette & Associates. In addition to hunting and fishing in his earlier years, he was very active with the men’s slow-pitch softball teams Duggan & Duggan and N.D. Burnette & Associates from the mid 1960’s through the early 1980’s. These major teams won Invitational, District, State, Regional, and National tournaments during the golden era of the sport. He sponsored and directed the Pick-O-Dixie, one of the South’s premier tournaments, for many years. He and his brother, Dan, enjoyed this sport together. Dean dutifully served our country in the U. S. Air Force Reserve. The family sends a loving thank you to Angie Guffey for her special care of our beloved father and mother. Angie's exceptional care gave our family great comfort. Thank you to Hospice of Chattanooga, especially Nurse Kim Sweeton, for all their care in his final days. To our dad, we will always remember your wit and generosity and carry the memory of your caring nature in our hearts. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. Dean will be interred with his wife in Chattanooga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tenn. 37416. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.ChattanoogaEastChapel.com
