Earl Sanders

Earl Lankford Sanders, 103 of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, July 22, 2019. Born in Lanett, Alabama, he graduated from Chattanooga Central High School (1934) and Edmondson Business School. He worked for the Railway Express Agency for 40 years. A veteran of WWII, 5th Army, 28th Ordinance, served in N. Africa and Sicily under Gen. George Patton and the Italian campaign under Gen. Mark Clark. He was a member of Crosspath at East Ridge Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Kathleen Hackworth Sanders; his parents, Noel and Hazel Sanders; and son-in-law, James Stamey. Earl is survived by his children, Jerry Sanders and wife, Janet, and Phyllis Stamey; his grandchildren, Jill and Wes Sanders, Jerry Stamey and wife Lisa, Betsy Jones and husband, Jonathan, and Holly Winkles and husband Bobby; and eight great-grandchildren, Mia Stamey, Justin and Ben Tennant, Xander and Skylar Jones, and Noelle, Jacob, and Brody Winkles. There will be a committal service at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11 AM, Wednesday with Dr. Ronnie Mitchell officiating. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness for someone you don’t know. Arrangements by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
