Irvin Boatwright
ROSSVILLE — Master Sgt. Irvin Boatwright, 84, of Rossville/Dry Valley Community, went home to be with the
Lord Tuesday, July 22, 2019, after a long battle with cancer related to Agent Orange.
Irvin was a U.S. Army veteran 5th Special Force serving in Germany, Korea Conflict, Vietnam where he served as a Green Beret and Paratrooper. Master Sgt. Boatwright was
appointed to UTC/ROTC until his retirement of 26 years of military services. After retiring, and
returning to the area he taught ROTC programs at Central High School, Ringgold High School and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. He brought a vast knowledge of military leadership
and intelligence to the schools. He volunteered and was associated with the VVA Chapter 203,
5th Special Forces Association, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team and 54th Special Forces
Reunion. Irvin idolized his military life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Mary Thomison Boatwright, Son, Raymond Boatwright, Sisters, Wilma Gray and Mary Evans.
Survivors include his wife, Lynne Boatwright; Son, Walter D. (Katt) Boatwright; Brothers, C.H. Boatwright, Aubrey Boatwright and James Boatwright; Sisters, Estelle Sechler and Ruby Pierce; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel officiated by Military
Associates. Interment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Gardens with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to ROTC Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High
School Scholarship Program, 1850 Battlefield Parkway, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga 30742.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Friday until the funeral hour at 1
p.m.at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory located at the end of
historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
