Walter Cochran

Walter George Cochran, 85, of Ooltewah, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, June 10, 2019. Walter was born in St. Petersburg, Fla., and raised in various places being part of a military family. He graduated from high school in Georgia and learned many farming and forestry skills at his grandfather’s farm. He was an Air Force veteran and graduated from Georgia Tech with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He worked at several paper mill companies in Ohio and Tennessee and retired from Rock-Tenn “Westrock” Paper Manufacturing as the Plant Engineer. His hobbies included woodworking and being outdoors, was an avid snow skier and tennis player, and loved beach vacations at Hilton Head Island He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Cochran; parents, Lloyd and Dorothy Cochran; and sister, Gladys Benefield. Surviving are his children, Jane (Terry) Rohr, Judy (Frank) Turner and Mark (Dana) Cochran; grandchildren, Lauren (Luke) Barnette, Brittany Rohr, John Turner, Brock (Amanda) Turner, Robert Turner, Emily Cochran and Holly Cochran; great-granddaughter, Olivia; brother, Eugene Cochran; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home followed by a 3 p.m. Funeral Service at the funeral home with Rev. Wayland Stewart officiating. A Graveside Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at Holly Hills Cemetery in Fairburn, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Georgia Tech Scholarship Fund (Georgia Tech Alumni Association, Attn: Scholarships, 190 North Avenue, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30313 or www.gtalumni.org).
