Bertha Church

Bertha Walker Church, 73, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was retired from the State of Tennessee as Executive Assistant to former Speaker of the House, Jimmy Naifeh for 18 years and former Speaker Kent Williams for two years. She attended Tennessee State University in Nashville and she was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1963. She had made her home in Nashville since 1964. She was a member of Christ the King Parish in Nashville. Bertha was predeceased by brothers, John and David McWhorter; step-father John H. McWhorter, II; grandfather, George Walker. She was the beloved wife of James (Jimmy) Church and the adoring mother of Jimi S. Church. She also leaves behind to cherish her memories, mother, Marian McWhorter, Chattanooga; sisters, Carol (Robert) Thomas, Chattanooga and Sandra Brinson, Jacksonville, Fla.; nieces, Monica (Emeri) Gordon, Chattanooga; Lisa Hinton, Hamilton, New Jersey; nephews, CW2/P John H. McWhorter IV, Niceville, FL; Derrick (Regina), Jason (Angela) and Willie Brinson, all of Jacksonville, FL; Robert (Sheniqua) Thomas, II, Jason (Kenya) Thomas, both of Chattanooga, Special niece - Alanna Gordon, Murfreesboro, TN; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, Family Friend, Patricia Sanderfer. The visitation will be on Monday, March 11, 2019, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3001 Belmont Blvd., Nashville, Tennessee, 37212 followed by a funeral mass. Services have been entrusted to Highland Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, 2422 Brick Church Pike, Nashville, TN 37207. Courtesy announcement by John P.
