Thelma Gibbs

Thelma Finley Gibbs, 94, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019. She was born in Hamilton County and throughout her life resided in Florida; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Chattanooga. Thelma was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1942, and she attended the 70 th class reunion. Shewas an active member of Brainerd Baptist Church and the Hamilton County Women’s Republican Association. She was a member of the Brainerd Women’s Golf Association and was an avid golfer until her 85th birthday. The four things she loved most were the Lord, golf, the beach, and hiking in the mountains. She was preceded in death by her parents William E. Finley and Irene Bice Finley; her grandparents, John B. Finley, Martha Grigsby Finley, Robert L. Bice, and Josie Shaw Bice; her brothers William E. Finley, Jr. and Eugene E. Finley; and her nephew William R. Finley. Left behind to cherish her memory are her nieces, Sandra Finley Etheredge and Jacqueline Finley Schmidt; two grand nieces, several grand nephews, one great-grand-nephew, and many cousins. A Celebration of Thelma’s Life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 1 p.m. with Jim Evans officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest beside her mother in the Forest Hills Cemetery.
