Eleanor Newman

“Stevie” Newman, May 5, 1929 to May 12, 2019. Born in Brigden, Ontario, Canada, graduate of the Sarnia General Hospital School of Nursing, she became head of the Emergency Department. Beloved wife of Robert Newman for 59 years and mother of Ingrid (Ken), Jennifer (Danny), Lisa (Eric) and Jeffery (Shannan), and grandmother of Marshall, Geneva, Cody, Dylan, Nicolas and Célia. Her compassionate and care-giving nature developed as a nurse was reflected throughout the rest of her life tending to friends and family. Her confident independence led her to travel, with trips to Cuba as the revolution was unfolding and on to Switzerland and then Tennessee as the family was relocated. Stevie lived at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain, Tennessee and her family express gratitude to the friends and staff for their friendship and kindness. Stevie’s sense of humour and her warm and generous spirit brightened the world and enriched the lives of her friends and family. There will be a private family service to celebrate her life. As an avid bird watcher, sympathy may be expressed through donations to the National Audubon Society.
