Janis Milholm

Janis Gay Cox Milholm passed away peacefully at her home in Ooltewah, Tennessee on September 22, 2019. She was feisty, determined and courageously fought to live despite her leukemia diagnosis. She outlived her prognosis by many years. In her final months, she was cared for lovingly, in her home, by her husband and family with the help of the wonderful caregivers at Hospice of Chattanooga. She was born October 7, 1937 in Luling, Texas where her father worked in the oil fields. She attended Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas and Union College in Lincoln Nebraska. She married Richard L. “Dick” Milholm in August, 1958 and willingly worked to support him as he finished his schooling. She also completed cosmetology school while living in Loma Linda, California where her husband was attending medical school. She lived for 21 years in Hendersonville, North Carolina where she raised two boys and worked part-time, as needed, in Dick’s medical practice. In 1987, they moved to Orlando, Florida and lived there until 2002 when, after retirement, they moved to Ooltewah, Tennessee to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Corinne Cox, and an infant son, Steven Ray Milholm. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. Richard L. Milholm; two sons John “Jack” (Donna) Milholm of Rossville, Georgia and Joseph (Dana) Milholm of McDonald, Tennessee; one brother, Gary Cox of Arizona; and eight grandchildren: Jesseca Milholm, Devon (Nicholas) Valenzuela, John Milholm, Derek (Katherine) Milholm, Mathew Milholm, Darla Milholm, Michael Milholm and A.J. Milholm.
