CLEVELAND Roy Edward Smith, 81, well known resident of Bradley County, went to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at his home.He was of the Baptist faith. He was a former member of Flint Springs Ruritan Club. He was a Sixth District Bradley County Commissioner from Sept. 1, 1982 to Aug. 31, 2010. He was always actively discussing county business with his constituents. He was a former cattle farmer and school bus driver with Whitfield County Schools in Georgia.He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Elva Higgins Smith; and brother, Jack Smith.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Willodyne Smith, of Cleveland; son, Van E. Smith and wife, Renee, of Dalton, Ga.; grandchildren, Caleb, Noah and Anna Kate Smith, all of Dalton; brother, Ronald Smith, of Monteagle; sister, Katherine Emerson, of Cleveland; and special friends, Glenn Cantrell, Elmer Cartwright, Zane Harris, Howard Thompson, J. L. Coe and others.Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 2, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Darey Kittle, Pastor Walley Varnell and his son, Pastor Van E. Smith officiating. Interment will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in Flint Springs Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to The Gideons International, P.O.
