Carl Jerald "Jerry" Furtney, 68 of Apison, died from complications from cancer surgery on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010.Carl was born on Aug. 30, 1941 in Ypsilanti, Mich., to the late Carl R. and Vera M. Furtney. On Jan. 14, 1967, he married the love of his life, Mary Jane Hoppert. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.Carl served in the U.S. Marines and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was an avid golfer, football fan and enjoyed spending time with his friends after retirement. Carl was preceded in death by his brother, Donald "Bud" Furtney.Survivors include his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Jane Furtney; daughters, Lisa (Kevin) Emerson and Andrea (Edward) King; granddaughter, Jordan Ashley Furtney; sister, Marilyn (Carl) Miller; several nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev.
