Richie Ashley Rolston, 94, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on Sept. 3, 2010, in the gentle care of family and Hospice of Chattanooga.She was predeceased by her beloved husband Judge Charles Fisk Rolston; by her parents Emma and Joseph Ashley; and by her siblings Hazel Daughtrey, Hartley Ashley, Sue Shelley, and Grant Ashley, Sr.Among her survivors are a daughter Rebecca Raymond of Hixson; grandchildren Dr. Liesel Ritchie, Boulder, Colo., D. Rolston Miller, Toronto, ON, Michaela Miller, San Diego, Calif., Anya Miller-Berg Seattle, Wash.; also great-grandchildren Cassidy, Andie, and Dax Miller. Others are her dear nieces Lynette Daughtrey Hudgins and Carolyn Ashley; and nephews Earl Ashley and Grant Ashley, Jr.Mrs. Rolston was raised on the family farm in Hixson, originally established about 1800. She graduated from Hixson High School and attended business college in preparation to become a paralegal. While a devoted wife and mother, she generously gave of her talents and resources as well to the community through Lookout Mtn Baptist Church, Fairview United Methodist Church, Senior Neighbors of Chattanooga, and the Board of Directors at Citizens Savings & Loan Corp.Richie, known as "Gigi" to her family, enjoyed gardening, needlecrafts, reading, pets, family history, Southern cookin, entertaining, travel, along with an informed and healthful lifestyle. Her greatest joy, however, was her family, who continue to honor her through personal integrity and achievement in lives well lived.There will be a private graveside service at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Reverends Rhonda Hobbs and Henry Groseclose officiating.Pallbearers will be Terry Van Winkle, Paul T. Ashley, Jr., William L. Bowman, Dana Harding, Charles Swingle and Edwin Hixson.A memorial celebration will be held at a later date.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, whose staff have faithfully guided us through this journey, or to McKamey Animal Center.
