JASPER Betty Warren Dawson went to be with her heavenly Savior at 9:41 p.m. CDT on Monday, July 30, 2012, in Chattanooga due to complications after surgery.Betty was born Elizabeth Jean Warren on June 7, 1928 to Jim and Sally Thach Warren.Betty owned a restaurant in Jasper for many years, where others got to experience her great cooking skills. She retired from Valley View Assisted Living Center in October 2010.Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dawson Jr.; parents, Jim and Sally Warren; brothers, Jack and Kenneth Warren; and a grandson, Christian Dawson.Betty's greatest comfort came from her faith. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper. Her love of God and Bible gave her strength and grace throughout life. Gospel music was her favorite which she often played and could often be found singing.She loved to feed the birds and squirrels and would spend hours sitting outside watching them.Her greatest joy came from having her family in her home. She loved to cook for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An over-crowded house full of food, laughter and children were some of her happiest moments. All children were immediately drawn to her and her love for them was instant. Her smile, grace, forgiveness and unconditional love will be greatly missed.Betty is survived by her children, Linda (Denver) Sartin, Nokomis Warren and Johnnie (Larry) Ziegler and Dennis (Judy) Dawson, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Marquita Blevins, Krista and Elizabeth Warren, Dr. Martha Ziegler, Larry Ziegler, Jr., Scherre Haney, Brandon Dawson; step-grandchildren, Keith and Kimmie Short; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, James Warren, Shelbyville and Ralph Warren, KnoxvilleVisitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. CDT today, Aug. 1, 2012.Services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. CDT on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, with Brother David Grisham officiating.Interment will follow in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.Pallbearers will be Jamie Warren, Brandon Dawson, Chris Haney, Larry Ziegler, Jr., Ryan Carter, Joey, Josh and Jonathan Blevins.Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Jasper or St. Judes Childrens Hospital.To send online condolences visit www.tatefh.com.Arrangements by Tate Funeral Home, Jasper, Tenn., 423-942-9500.
