John H. Leland, M.D. passed away July 30, 2012 at his residence in Ooltewah.He was born 1924 in San Diego, Calif.John served his country as a medic in the South Pacific during World War II. Upon returning he met and married Floreen Babienco in San Diego. He graduated from Loma Linda Medical University as an M.D. in 1953 and practiced family medicine as a missionary in Cambodia,Thailand, Mexico and Kentucky for 43 years before retiring to Ooltewah. During his remaining years he visited their four children and 10 grandchildren, landscaping and gardening, proudly serving with the Ooltewah VFW, visiting shut-ins, and serving in a local prison ministry.He is survived by his wife, Floreen Babienco Leland; children, Joleen Horine, James, John Jr. and Jennifer Huck; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.A Memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church.
