Myra Averett Wilson, of Hixson won her battle with cancer and went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012.Myra lived a rich, fulfilled, and joyous life, beginning with her birth on Nov. 29, 1939 in Dale County, Ala., to parents Fred and Euna Byrd Averett. The third of four children (and the only daughter), she grew up on the family farm, attending church and school in Enterprise, Ala.After graduating high school she worked at the Ft. Rucker Exchange until she married her lifelong love, Homer Coleman Wilson, on Feb. 7, 1959; they were baptized together three months later, on May 9, and have continued as faithful, devoted believers and church members ever since, including Chattanooga Primitive Baptist Church since 1972. Myra and Homer began their family in Dothan, Ala., and also lived in Tallahassee, Fla., Tampa, Fla., Enterprise, Ala., and Chattanooga, Tenn. In addition to devoting her energies to her family and church, she worked as a teachers' aide, in retail sales, and with her husband's construction firm. When Homer suffered a life-threatening fall in 1996, Myra stood loyally by his side to nurse him back to health. When she was first diagnosed with her illness in 2002, he was able to do the same for her. They worked so well and so closely together in all things that it was said they functioned like a doctor and a nurse. Her faith was strong, her bearing dignified, and she lived out her love to friends and family as a strong, caring, and serving matriarch with a wry smile and sense of humor. In the end she was blessed with a peaceful time of passing, and leaves behind her husband Homer; children Carmen (Jim) Peace, David (Kelly), and Zach; five grandchildren Emily Peace, Jake and Kevin Wilson, Andrew Peace and Luke Wilson; three brothers Elder Fred (Betty) Averett, CSM (Retired) Charles Don (Morine) Averett and James Wayne (Mickey) Averett; many other family members, and numerous friends. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today, Aug. 6 at the North Chapel.Services for Myra will be held at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home chapel with Elders Andrew Huffman and Joe Hildreth officiating.
