Clem Akins


HUNTSVILLE Clem William Akins, avid rock climber, caver, mountaineer, and teacher passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in Huntsville. He was born Sept. 8, 1962 in New Mexico to Clem William Akins, Jr. and Frances Bristow Akins of Huntsville, Ala. and he was 50 years old. He was married to Pamela Akins of Chattanooga where they resided with three stepchildren. His siblings include Janette Rawls, her husband Buddy Rawls, their children Savannah and Cameron Rawls. His brother, Wyatt Akins, his wife, Lisa Akins, and their daughter, Sophie. He had two children, Logan Akins, his wife Lindsay Akins, and their daughter Lorelai. His daughter, is Kara Akins, all are from Huntsville. His stepchildren are Jessica Baker Parson, her husband Nicolas Parson, and their two children, Adley and Sarah; Stephanie Baker Montgomery, her husband, William; and James Alex Baker.Some of his personal accomplishments included: masters of business administration, University of North Alabama bachelor of science in Computer Information Systems, Athens State University Director of Professional Services for Brokat TechnologiesTechnical Architect for Chordiant Software Customer Course Development Manager for Informix Software More than 75 Professional Certifications US Army Soldier, Paratrooper, Air Assault Trooper Bridge Day Safety Officer Southern Adventist University-Adjunct Professor Outdoor Life Program Ropeworks - Industrial Rope Access Supervisor and Trainer On Rope 1- Rope Technician Consultant/Instructor Nawa Academy- Outdoor Education Teacher Troubled Youth Program Chattanooga Hamilton County Rescue Service- Senior Rigger Completed an "Iron Butt" 1000 miles motorcycle ride Cross Country skied to the North Pole Did extensive horizontal and vertical caving worldwideRock climbing in Yosemite, Southern Rock, Western peaks, and more Mountaineered the Cascade peaks, Mt. Whitney, Mt. Ngauruhoe, Mt. Rainer Extensive travel in dozens of countries on five continents.A memorial service will be held to celebrate Clems life at the Straight to Ale brewery 3200 Leeman Ferry Road, Huntsville, Ala., on Saturday, Dec. 22nd.Donations to honor Clem will be accepted by the Southeastern Cave Conservancy.
