Maurice Allen Thomas, 49, passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, in Chattanooga.Maurice excelled in sports particularity basketball at Ooltewah High School in Chattanooga nicked named, "Sky" by his peers to denote the highs he would reach in playing the game. Maurice was employed at Covenant Transport for many years.Maurice was a member of Greater Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He was able to fix anything that needed to be fixed. He became known as one to get your electronics back up and running. He was also known to many people as "Mo".He was preceded in death by his wife, Denise G. Powell Thomas; and father, Raymond Rogers Thomas.He is survived by children, Tamisha Thomas McGee, Laurn (Jarmane) Knox, Bambi (James) Moore and Brandy Powell, Cedric Josey and Quincy Josey, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, RaMyia, Richard V. and RaLiya McGee, Demetrius Hampton, King Knox, DeAsia McClain, TyQuan Moore, JaLiyah Moore, LaZavia Roshell and Ashanti Roshell and Cedric Josey Jr., all of Chattanooga; his devoted mother, Evangelist Edna T. Mathis; siblings, Ronnie (Ella) Bush, of Kansas City, Kan., Lebron Gains, of Chattanooga, Helen (Terry) Branch, of Fayetteville, N.C., Annette Thomas of Chattanooga, Grady (Kerrie) Thomas, of Savern, Md., Margaret (Edward) Tucker, of Chattanooga and Benny Thomas, of Chattanooga; uncle, Jackie (Dedria) Bush, of California; a host of other relatives and friends.Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 in the chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. the day of the service.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
