Mary Ann Spencer, 81, passed away Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at her residence.She joins her parents, Bart and Virginia Woods; her brother, Eddie Woods; her grandson, Payton Anderson; and nephew Jeff Woods in the presence of God.Mary Anne was on the first cheerleading squad for Rossville High School, Class of 49. She worked for Peerless Woolen Mills before beginning a banking career at Hamilton Bank. She was the receptionist for Dr. L.H. Lassiter for many years, and retired when Tapistron International closed. Mary Anne was a charter member at St. Thaddaeus Episcopal Church, and served a term as the Secretary for Loret Boating Club. Mary Anne loved to entertain, was an excellent cook, and was known for giving hand knit dish clothes to those that showed kindness. After her illness limited her activities, she made christening blankets for churches as a way of giving back.She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Anne Allen Hannah and husband Ralph, and by daughter, Shannon Anderson; siblings, Buddy (Teresa) Woods, Sherry (Danny) Flegal, and Jo Banzaff; children of the heart, Terry Lynne Schiff, Robert Brown, Gil Cartwright, and Curt Hodge; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Whalen, Reid Anderson, Gavin Anderson, and Knox Whalen; also several nieces, a nephew, dear neighbors, and friends.Hospice of Chattanooga provided several staff members that Mary Anne and her family grew to love and appreciate as family. Those people include Pam (Washcloth), Pam (Moses), Missy (Miss Z), nurses, Lauren (Sprout), Erica (The Nurse), Nicola (5 Cents), and Doug (Maguyver). Clark Taylor and Dr. Melvin were of great support. Dr. Shibaji Shome is more than a blessing to our family. He is truly in the medical profession for the right reasons. His knowledge, kindness, and flexibility have given us time, comfort, and a life line that goes way above and beyond the norm. He is absolutely inspired and blesses by God. We will forever be in his debt.A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later time.
