FORT PAYNE Robert Elmer "Bob" Baxter, loving husband and father, passed away at home Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, in Fort Payne at the age of 91.He was born Aug. 12, 1920 to Stephen Elisha Baxter and Jessie Duncan Baxter. Bob was a lifelong resident of Fort Payne.He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice Ray (Clemons); and his daughter, Teresa Lynne Baxter, of Birmingham.Bob served in the U.S. Army for four years and was deployed to the Pacific Theater during World War II.For more than 30 years, Bob served as office manager for the Fort Payne Improvement Authority. He was a member of the Civitans Club and charter member of Landmarks of DeKalb County. Bob faithfully served the Lord through First Baptist Church as Sunday School teacher, church historian, the senior Golden Circle group, and as deacon emeritus. Early in his life, Bob developed a great love for music and baseball. These became two of his favorite pastimes.Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Funeral Home with burial at Glenwood Cemetery following.Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today.In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob Baxters name may be made to First Baptist Church, 106 Grand Ave. N., Fort Payne, AL 35967.
