FLINTSTONE George Lee Collier, 89, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, in a local hospital.He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 42 years of service and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Collier was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer and the Board of Stewards. He was a charter member of the Chattanooga Valley Lions Club. He was a sports enthusiast and was involved in Dixie Youth Baseball in North Georgia and enjoyed Alabama football. Mr. Collier was also a Mason.He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George O. Collier; wife of 52 years, Gladys Davis Collier; grandson, Jonathan Hicks; and brother, Richard Collier.Survivors are son, Gary (JoEllen) Collier, Hixson, Tenn.; daughter, Leesa Collier Hicks (Tony) Mohler, Dallas, Ga.; and; sister, Betty Collier Landon, Belleville, Mich.; grandchildren, Emily Collier (Russell Shelton), Chattanooga, Amber Collier (Jake Reagan), Sevierville, Tenn., January (Duane) Shiflett, Cartersville, Ga., Mega (Frank) Sumner, Jacksonville, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Jack and Audrey Shiflett and Isaiah and Emmalee Sumner.Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012, at National Cemetery with Monsignor Al Humbrect officiating.In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to McKamey Animal Shelter.The family appreciates all of the loving care that was given to Mr. Collier while he was a resident of The Terrace at Mountain Creek.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort with the family and view the memorial tribute.The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
