Sr.ATLANTA Vance Turk Fritts Sr., 85, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012.A native of Chattanooga, he was the youngest of two children born to Clara Vance Talbot and William Frye Fritts Sr. Mr. Fritts was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruth Williams Fritts; and his older brother, William Fritts Jr.Mr. Fritts graduated from McCallie High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He fought in World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to his wife and went to work for OB Andrews Co., which later became Container Corporation of America. Mr. Fritts moved to Atlanta in 1952 where he and his wife raised 3 children. He became very active with his children and youth sports. Mr. Fritts along with other men from his community helped to start Medlock Park and organized teams in youth football and baseball. Later as his children grew, he became involved in the Druid Hills High School football and wrestling programs through the booster club. He was always supportive of his children and their activities. Mr. Fritts is survived by his three children, Turk Fritts Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Dublin, Ohio, Allen Fritts and his wife, Pam, of Durham, Conn., Ruth Gaziano and her husband, Chuck, of Johns Creek, Ga.; grandchildren, Patricia Poulin, Allen Fritts Jr., Kelly Mayer, Brian Fritts, Wesley Fritts, Michael Gaziano, Matthew Gaziano and Laura Gaziano; great- grandchildren, Nicholas and Catherine Poulin; Morgan, Payton and Emery Mayer and Addison Fritts. Also surviving are his niece and nephew, Enid Fritts and Bill Fritts of Texas.Mr. Fritts loved his family and was devoted to them. He was a fine American who served his country well.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, at North Decatur Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Lewicki officiating.Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga.In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send memorial gifts in Turk Frittss memory to North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, GA 30033.The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
