Martha Swasey, 95, of Signal Mountain, passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012. She was founder and Director of Signal School of Physical Education and a Senior Olympian. She had also been Director of Womens Athletics at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.; Associate Physical Director, Central YMCA, Chattanooga; Associate Professor, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Health and Physical Education teacher, Oak Ridge High School, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Special Physical Education teacher, Woodland Elementary School, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Assistant Professor, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina; and Chairman of Physical Education Department, Tennessee College for Women, Murfreesboro, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan V. Swasey.Survivors include her son, Allan V. Swasey, Jr.; daughters, Patricia Jordan and Dorothy Brewer; grandsons, Jim Jordan III, Matthew Swasey, and Ryan Smith; granddaughters, Jackie Jordan Pullen, Chelsea Huddleston, and Erin Swasey. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 12 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Janice Mynchenberg officiating.
