SrRobert Lee Canion Sr., born in Chattanooga, departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012 at Heritage Valley Medical Center. Robert graduated from Kirkman Technical School in 1981. He then enlisted in the Air Force on June 13, 1981 answering his nations call to serve and protect his country; he did so for 30 long years. He performed aircraft maintenance on T-38, A-10 & F-15 fighter jets as a dedicated crew chief.He was a Flight Expediter, APG Section Chief, Production and lead production superintendent. He received many awards and achievement medals, national defense service medal and also the Southwest Asia Service Medal for his outstanding military service. Robert attended ECPI and Hampton University. While in the military he achieved an associates degree in Aircraft Maintenance Technology, Bachelors Degree in Business and he was working toward completing his Masters Degree.He was preceded in death by parents; mother, Virginia Reviere and father, Richard Canion Sr.; brother, John E. Marshall and devoted lifelong friend, Eric Payne.Robert Lee Canion Sr. married on Sept. 15, 1982 to former Gina Stratton from Beaver Falls, Pa.; and has five sons, Peirce Antwaun (Christy) Green of South Pittsburgh, Tenn., Anthony Canion, Omaha, Neb., Robert Lee Canion Jr., Omaha, Neb., Tajarel Dejurnet Canion, Beaver Falls, Pa.; grandchildren, Jarell Naquan Green, Adrian Shaniece Green, Kayla Taniece Green, Pierce Antwaun Green II, Anthony Canion Jr., Robert Edward Canion and Carter Canion; brothers, Chevie Canion, and Vinson (Colleen) Canion, both of Chattanooga; Richard Canion Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich.; sister, Virginia O. Canion, Chattanooga; aunts, Lillie (Calvin) Cunningham. Thomaston, Ga., Martha (Charlie) Trice, Columbus, Ga.; uncles, Calvin Reviere, Philadelphia, Pa., Fletcher Reviere, Thomaston, Ga.; devoted cousins, Annie Mae Reviere, Chattanooga, Rhonda Grant, Columbus; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and military friends.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 in the chapel with Dr. Bernie Miller officiating.Interment in National Cemetery with full military honors.The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
