DAYTON Robert Franklin Downey, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home.He was a long time resident of Dayton and attended Waldens Ridge Baptist Church. He loved everything outdoors, hunting, farming, working on old cars and woodworking.He was preceded in death by parents, Tom and Edith Downey; brother, Eddie Downey; sister, Patsy Leffew; half brothers, Billy and Web Downey.Survivors his wife of 51 years, Clara Skidmore Downey; four children, Thomas (Michelle) Downey, Robby (Kathy) Downey, Shelia (Bill) Travis, all of Dayton, Ernie (Christy) Downey, of Ringgold, Ga.; brother, Herman Downey; three sisters, Betty (Delbert) McBrien, Ruby (Clarence) Pickett and Lynda Lively; eight grandchildren, Jake, Lindy, Ethan, Gavin, Spencer and Merry Downey, Will and Ava Travis; several nieces and nephews.Funeral will be 1 p.m. today, Sept. 7, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with the Rev.
