Rachel "Rae" Myers Sear, 93, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at her residence.Rae was born August 29, 1919 in New York City to the late Sarah and Morris Myers, she married Harry Sear in 1940 and they moved to Chattanooga where they had their son Jerry in 1941, together they started a small dry goods store in the downtown area with several locations.Rae and Harry moved their business to LaFayette, Ga., where they opened two stores. In the 1960's Harry and his son started Sears' Shoe Store in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., while Rae continued to work her store in Lafayette, and finally joined her husband and son in the Fort Oglethorpe business.Rae worked everyday until poor health forced her to give her store up, she will be greatly missed by all her family and those who knew her.Rae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry Sear; brother Jack Myers; brother in laws Raymond Berger and Melvin Kaset.Survivors include her son Gerald Sear and his wife Sheila, of Chattanooga; two granddaughters, Robyn Nemeroff and husband Joey, of Marietta, Ga., and Mickie Merlin and husband Mark, of Atlanta, Ga.; 4 great-grandchildren, Jake Nemeroff and Rachel Nemeroff, of Marietta, Ga., and Zachary Merlin and Raye Claire Merlin, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister Loretta Berger, of New York; sister in laws: Harriett Myers, Yuppie Shavin and her husband Harold, Dorothy Kaset; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at B'Nai Zion Cemetery with Rabbi Susan Tendler officiating.Family wishes to thank Rae's wonderful and caring caregivers Terri Howe and Cindy Wingo.
