Rachel "Ray" Myers Sear, 93, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at her residence.Ray was born Aug. 29, 1919 in New York City to the late Sarah and Morris Myers, she married Harry Sear in 1940 and they moved to Chattanooga where they had their son Jerry in 1941, together they started a small dry goods store in the downtown area with several locations.Ray and Harry moved their business to LaFayette, Ga., where they opened two stores. In the 1960s Harry and his son started Sears Shoe Store in Fort Oglethorpe, while Ray continued to work her store in Lafayette, and finally joined her husband and son in the Fort Oglethorpe business.Ray worked everyday until poor health forced her to give her store up, she will be greatly missed by all her family and those who knew her.Ray was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry Sear; brother, Jack Myers; brothers-in law, Raymond Berger and Melvin Kaset.Survivors include her son, Gerald Sear and his wife, Sheila, of Chattanooga; two granddaughters, Robyn Nemeroff and husband, Joey, of Marietta, Ga., and Mickie Merlin and husband, Mark, of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Jake Nemeroff and Rachel Nemeroff, of Marietta, Ga., and Zachary Merlin and Raye Claire Merlin, of Atlanta; sister, Loretta Berger, of New York; sisters-in law, Harriett Myers, Yuppie Shavin and her husband, Harold, Dorothy Kaset; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at BNai Zion Cemetery with Rabbi Susan Tendler officiating.Family wishes to thank Rays wonderful and caring caregivers, Terri Howe and Cindy Wingo.
