Joseph Delmas "J.D." Moon, 90, of Chattanooga, died peacefully at home on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012.J.D. was born in Chattanooga, on Oct. 17, 1921. He graduated from Birchwood High School and attended the University of Chattanooga.As a cartographic draftsman, he was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority for 42 1/2 years. During World War II, his department developed maps for use by allied forces invading Europe. They also produced detailed contour maps of areas to be used as lake reservoirs necessary for the construction of dams along the Tennessee River and other tributaries.Mr. Moon enjoyed making hand-crafted belts and jewelry. Tinkering on old cars was one of his favorite pastimes as was working in the yard and gardening. He was devoted to his family and always put others first.J.D. was a previous member of Chamberlain Avenue Baptist Church and attended Victory Christian Fellowship.He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Moon; mother, Lula Pearl Moon; sister, Jewel Bischoff; and brothers, Burl Moon and Ted Moon. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, Louise Foster Moon; daughters, Karen (Wayne) Albin and Mary Moon; grandchildren, Alex, Derek and Marisa Tuck; and brother, McKinley Moon.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor David Seymour officiating.Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.Pallbearers will be Steve Moon, Ian Moon, Andrew Moon, David Moon, Andy Moon and Alex Tuck.The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.The family would like to thank the nurses and assistants at Hospice of Chattanooga for their care.Please share your condolences at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, & Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343.
