Susan Vess Adams, 64, died on Tuesday, Aug.13, 2013, at a nursing home in Murfreesboro, Tenn.She was born in Chattanooga, to the late George D. Vess Jr. and Jean Thomas Vess. Susan was a graduate of Chattanooga High School. She received an Elementary Ed. degree from Peabody College, in Nashville. Later, Susan received a masters in elementary ed., a second masters in social studies from Georgia State University and a third masters in library science from the University of Georgia.Susan taught 25 years in Habersham County, Ga., where she was chosen as Habersham County Teacher of the Year in 1983. She was president of the Business Professional Women's Club in 1985, secretary of the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers sorority and was a member of the Cornelia Three Arts Club. Susan was an excellent pianist and taught piano for many years from her home. She was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Murfreesboro, Tenn.She was preceded in death by her former husband, Judge Steven C. Adams, of Cornelia, Ga.Survivors include her mother, Jean Thomas Vess, of Murfreesboro; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and David Gibbs, of Murfreesboro; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Deborah Vess, of Chattanooga; her niece, Rebecca Susan Gibbs Foster, of Murfreesboro; her niece, Jennifer Gibbs Thomas, of Nashville; her nephew, Chauncey David Vess, of Chattanooga; and her niece, Leslie Vess Mahoney, of Chattanooga. Susan also had a great-niece and several great-nephews.Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. in the Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace chapel following visitation, with the Rev.
