Jimmy "Yogi" Wayne Garner, 75, of Hixson, finished his brave and lengthy battle with melanoma on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a member of Burks United Methodist Church. He retired from DuPont after 33 years. Yogi had a passion for his family, Alabama football, and bowling. He served on the Chattanooga Area Bowling Assn. Board for many years and was inducted into the CABA Hall of Fame for service. He currently was serving on the Southeastern Bowling Assn. Board of Directors. Yogi served as a Little League baseball coach for 15 years at Middle Valley. He served a long time as Chairman of Pleasant Grove voting Precinct.He is survived by his wife, Jimmye; sons, Gary (Betty) Garner and Travis (Teena) Garner; granddaughters, Allie and Anna Garner; brother, Billy (Margaret) Garner of Scottsboro, Ala.; half siblings, Charles, Tommy, and Johnny Garner and Shirley; and several extended family members, nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, G.W. Garner and Emma Holder; and half brother, C. W. Garner.Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.Funeral Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the funeral home with the Rev. Amy Nutt officiating.
