Emily E. Heard, 70, departed this life during the early morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013.Emily Enora Goss was born on Nov. 30, 1942 to Mann Goss and Mable Brewer Goss in Glenn, Ga. She received Christ into her life at an early age while living in Roanoke, Ala. At the age of 16 she moved to Chattanooga, to live with her aunt, Salimma Odums, where she attended Second District School and Howard High School. Emily joined Second Missionary Baptist Church where her aunt was a member, shortly after arriving in Chattanooga, at the age of seventeen.While at Second Baptist she served faithfully for many years on the Senior Usher Board, worked in the Childrens Church and was a member of Club 11. On Dec. 16, 1961 she married Howard Heard Jr. and they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. To their union five children were born: Delbert LeBron, Melbert LeDon, Edward Austin, Howard Ervin and Emily Denese Heard Blackmon.Sister Heard was self-employed as a beautician for 40 plus years at the former Hollywood Beauty Salon.She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.Sister Heard leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Howard Heard; her five children; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sisters, Cenia Clark; one aunt, Emma Sue Reese; a host of nieces, nephews; a cherished friend, Christine Ross. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children, for she will be FOREVER LOVED and NEVER FORGOTTEN!!!!Services will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Second Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul A. McDaniel officiating.Interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
