Francis Larry Dowd, of Hixson, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013. He was 70 years old. Larry was born on Dec. 29, 1942 in Chattanooga, to the late Francis and Nannie Alice Dowd. He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1960 and received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Larry worked at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, Tenn., and was retired from TVA. He was of the Methodist faith. Larry is survived by his wife, Carol Dowd; daughters, Kathy Stewart of Hixson; Laura (Richard) Wakenigg, of Cataula, Ga. and Cindy Dowd, of Tucker, Ga.; grandchildren, Ryan, Abby, Brooke and Brady Wakenigg and Amanda and Scotty Stewart; brother, Lewis (Julie) Dowd, of Chattanooga; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Mary Rose, Caroline, Violet and Talon. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the North Chapel. Services for Larry will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Beard officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Spring City Cemetery.
