Carolyn B. Knox, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at her residence in the loving arms of her son Rodney. She was a 1950 honors graduate of Howard High School. Carolyn attended Chattanooga State to receive specialized training in medical equipment sterilization. She worked in Family Planning at the Hamilton County Health Department for 22 years and retired in 1992. She worked with Senior Neighbors at Battle Academy and was a foster grandparent for 8 years at the Chambliss Home. She was a faithful member of Greater Second Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years, where she served on the Mother's Board. She was an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction novels, romance novels, Healthy Living and Good housekeeping magazines. Carolyn loved to cook a variety of foods for her family from scratch especially during the holidays. She also loved to shop at the local malls as her Saturday morning ritual. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jarred David Knox. Survivors include her sons, Kareem (Martha) Shabazz, Michael, Tracy, Anthony Knox and Jerry Shropshire all of Chattanooga, Tenn., Gregory (Melissa) Shropshire, of Nashville, Tenn., Jeffery (Sylvia) Knox, of South Holland, Ill., and devoted son/caregiver, Dr. Rodney Knox, of Chattanooga; daughters, Wanda (Douglas) Spencer, of Pittsburg, Pa., Cynthia Graham and devoted daughter/caregiver, Debra Shropshire (LC, Jr.) Harkness, both of Chattanooga; 27 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; adopted son, Morris Taylor; several cousins and a host of dear friends. Visitation is Monday Dec. 9, from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service is Tuesday at Noon at Greater Second M.B. Church with Dr. Steve Caudle as the eulogist. Burial: Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
