Ruth Wells

Ruth Howorth Wells, 95, of East Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. She was a member of First Christian Church for 65 years, past president of CWF and a member of the prayer group. Ruth was born in West Point, Miss., a daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Halbert Howorth. She was a graduate of Mississippi University for Women and worked for TVA during WWII. She was a TVA Volunteer, a member of MOAA and a member of the Chattanooga Alumni Group of the MUW. She was a loving wife and mother, her warm smile brightened everyones day. She was loved by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Wells Jr.; and a sister, Virginia Mims. Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Wells (John) Wise, of Atlanta, and Linda Wells (Jon) Scheurman, of Hiawassee, Ga.; two grandchildren, Lacey (Sol) Johnson-Mey, of Denver, Colo.. and Stuart Schuerman, of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Phil Summerlin officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
