James E. Winston, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at his residence. He was a member of Ridgedale Church of Christ. He was a WWII veteran, serving in Italy, France, and Germany. He was a self-employed construction worker. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nettie Winston; mother, Louise Winston; daughter, Ethel Rowe; granddaughter, Tonya Rowe; sister, Mary Ellis; brother, John Winston; and sister-in-law, Susie Winston. Survivors include sons, Johnny "J.J." (Sharon) Winston and Henry Winston; daughters, Linda (Edwin) Simmons, Dorothy Gonzalez, and Shirley (Larry) Nelson; 17 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Harris of Opelika, Ala.; sister-in-law, Melinda Blakely, sister-in-law, Annie Kirk; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Brother Ken Willis as the eulogist. Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery.
