Jane Phillips

Jane C. Phillips, 83, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Erlanger Medical Center following a brief illness. Jane was born in Pine Hill, Tenn. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daisy Selvidge Collins and Henry Clay Collins Sr.; sisters, Thyra Louise Crawford and Evelyn Inez Collins; brothers, George L. Collins and Henry "Buddy" Clay Collins Jr. Jane was a member of Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years. Here she was a member of the Alert Sunday School class and Women's Ministry Church. She enjoyed taking part in the senior field trips and helping with the church's annual rummage sale. She spent a good part of her life in retail management, most recently at Ed Manz Hosiery. Jane loved football, particularly the Manning brothers and any team on which they played. She was an avid gardener. She spent hours working in her backyard garden and had created a habitat for the birds that she loved to watch. Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Raymond E. Phillips Sr., of Chattanooga; her daughter, Mona A. Daughtrey and her husband, Greg, of Soddy Daisy; her son, Raymond E. Phillips Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Johnson City, Tenn. Jane is also survived by the pride and joys of her life, her four grandchildren, Brian Alan Daughtrey, and his wife, Andrea, of Franklin, Tenn.; Becca Daughtrey Close and her husband, Todd, of Soddy Daisy; Austin Nicole Phillips, of Knoxville; Erica Brooke Phillips, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two cherished great-grandchildren, Reid Cooper Close and Audrey Kate Close; two sisters, with whom she loved to lunch, Jessie Ruth Igou, of Chattanooga and Frances Elizabeth Quarles, of Cartersville, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Monday, Dec. 23, at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Rev. Forrest Prosser officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church General Fund, 115 Morrison Springs Road, Chattanooga TN 37415.
