Georgie AveritteGeorgie Ann Averitte, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, as a result of complications from Alzheimer's. She was born on Sept. 5, 1921 in Mansfield, Ga., to the late Crawford and Alice Elizabeth Harwell. Mrs. Averitte graduated from nursing school in Atlanta and enlisted as an Ensign in the Navy. While stationed in New Orleans, LA during WWII in 1944 at the Navy Hospital, she met and married First Lieutenant George Warren Averitte, Jr. Mrs. Averitte was an active lifelong member of First Centenary Methodist Church. She volunteered for many organizations.Mrs. Averitte was preceded in death by her daughter, Ava Averitte O'Neal; and her husband, George Warren Averitte, Jr.She leaves one daughter, Charla Averitte Lofton, of Tunica, Miss.; two grandsons, Brian O'Neal, of Colorado and Matt O'Neal, of Birmingham, Ala.; two great-grandchildren.Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Phil McGregor.
