Natalie Deborah Schlack, 89, of East Ridge, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in a local hospital.She was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pa. to Richard and Alma Marie Rentz Schlack. She had been a member of Ascension Lutheran Church since 1935, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served on the church council.Natalie was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Chattanooga and received her Masters in English from the University of Wisconsin. She taught English at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and the University of Chattanooga. She retired in 1988 from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga as registrar.She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Alma Schlack.Survivors include her brother, Theodore (Marion) Schlack; niece, Virginia (James) Rothenberger and their son, Brian; nephew, Richard (Carolyn) Schlack and their sons, Weston and Trevor; nephew, Steven (Susan) Schlack and their sons, Devon and Spencer.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ascension Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Crim officiating. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. Saturday at the church and there will be fellowship time following the service.Memorial contributions may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 720 S.
