Doris Ruth Ledford Messenger passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Hixson. Her beloved siblings were with her, as were other family members.Doris was born July 18, 1941, in Chattanooga, to Lawrence and Ruth Reno Ledford. She was married to Jimmy Messenger for 44 years,Her family includes her husband, Jim Messenger; two sisters, Katherine Roark, of Chattanooga and Mary (Ed) Duppenthaler, of Florida; two brothers Alton (Elouise) Ledford, of Chattanooga and James (Shelby) Ledford, of Chapel Hill, Tenn. Her stepchildren Bruce Messenger, of Sparta, Suzanne (Bill) Worrell, of Cookeville, Deborah Messenger of Doyle, and Sandra (Joe) Kipp, of Michigan; daughter-in-law Connie Messenger, of Sparta. also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her stepson Terry Messenger of Sparta, Mrs. Messenger was employed for many years at the accounting office of James Hawkins in Cookeville, She was an accomplished rider of Tennessee Walking horses, having won many awards throughout the states of Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky. She and her husband had attended the Walking Horse Celebration for over 50 years.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to St. Jude Hospital.Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, from the chapel of Oaklawn Funeral Home- Cremation Center in Sparta.The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the funeral home. Service time is 1 p.m.
