James Everett Payne, of Chattanooga and formerly of South Pittsburg, Tenn., died at his residence on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. He was 88 years old.He was a WWII veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He retired from TVA and was a member of St Martins Episcopal Church in Chattanooga.Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Frances Payne; daughters, Janie (Larry) Craig, of Fayetteville, Mary (Pat) Marsh, of Shelbyville, and Lynn Poffo, of Seminole, Fla.; grandchildren, Amy (Scott) Damstrom, of Spring Hill; Lindsay (Tripp) Wiles, of Charleston, S.C., Jim (Libby) Craig, of Fayetteville, Rob (Katherine) Marsh and John Marsh, of Shelbyville, Noelle Anderson, of Palm Harbor, Fla., Devon Anderson, of Largo, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren.Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 24, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Chattanooga. Service and interment will follow at 11 a.m.Visit www.heritagefh.com to share words of comfort to the family.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Martin's Building Fund, 7547 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421, or to The Metropolitan Episcopal Ministry, 1112 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37404.Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
