Dr. Jack Reynolds Kennedy, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.He grew up in Red Bank and attended Red Bank Baptist Church.Dr. Kennedy achieved five advanced degrees including B.A. from Cumberland University, M. DIV. Southern Baptist Seminary, PhD. University of Edinburgh, Scotland, M.A. and ED.S. Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. All degrees were in the fields of English, theology and psychology.Dr. Kennedy served at Lookout Baptist Church for five years, chairman of the department of philosophy and sociology, Belmont University, assistant division chairman and later full professor of Psychology North Virginia Community College. He retired in 1994 and later moved back to Chattanooga.Interest in travel sent him all over the globe and he brought many stories and reminders back with him. He loved music and served as president of the Chattanooga Music Club and worked tirelessly helping to raise money for the Memorial Auditorium Organ restoration.He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Reynolds Kennedy Underwood; and his father, Elvin Kennedy.Survivors include his sisters, Billye Ragsdale, of Chattanooga and Shirley (Warren) Hardy, of Chattanooga; nieces, Jan Hardy (Robert) Fanslow, of Cumming, Ga., and Kay Hardy (David) Baker, of Chattanooga.Funeral services are 11 a.m. today at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with the Rev. Bert Jones officiating.Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Bank Baptist Church.
