DAYTON Gary Douglas Goodwin, 66, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in Parkridge Hospital.Gary was a graduate of Chattanooga High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was retired from Bechtel after 13 years of service. He traveled worldwide as a senior planner and project control specialist in nuclear plants, fossil and other industrial plants. Gary was born in Athens, Tenn. on Feb. 2, 1947, was raised in Chattanooga, was a Sergeant E-5 in the U.S. Army serving three years in Vietnam. He received a purple heart, two unit citations and other medals and commendations while he served.He was preceded in death by parents, Clarence Ivan and Sarah Gertrude Boyd.Survivors include his wife, Wanda Goodwin, of Dayton; two daughters, Sarah Goodwin Newton, of Roswell, Ga., Shalon Goodwin (Brian) Bull, of Palm Beach, Fla.; one son, Gary Douglas (Veronica) Goodwin Jr., of Jacksonville, Fla..; three stepchildren, Chasta Brooks (Brian) Christopher, Eric (Kari) Brooks, Bryan Brooks; one sister, Patricia Goodwin (John) Hyler, of Chattanooga; three brothers, Marion Mitchell Goodwin, of Chattanooga, David Paul (Kathy) Goodwin, of Granbury, Texas, Christopher Boyd (Nancy) Goodwin, of Spring City, Tenn.; and several beloved nieces, nephews and their children; 14 grandchildren..Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Pastor Stanley Faulkner.Interment in Riceville Cemetery, Riceville, Tenn.Please visit www.coultergarrisonfuneralhome.com to share condolences.Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, Dayton.
