Margaret Arline Carrell Smith passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Her life passions were family, faith, nursing, care giving and volunteer service. She was born in Springfield, MO and relocated to Fort Payne, Ala., through high school. She began nursing training in Washington, D.C. at the former Episcopal Eye, Ear, & Throat Hospital. She completed her RN designation at the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing.She was married to the late attorney and former Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Dixie T. Smith. She was the mother of Carol (deceased), Shannon, Robert and Beth. A life-long United Methodist, she filled her life with church activities. She also volunteered in her children's schools and Senior Neighbors Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and helping others.She is survived by her children Shannon, Robert (Pam), and Beth; her grandchildren are Mary Beth, Kristyn, Laura, Travis, Meg (deceased), Zachary, and Haley.
