Elysie Cheek Arnold passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, April 22, 2014, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was almost 100 years old. She was born in Burlington, N.C., Aug. 13, 1914, to John and Bess Satterfield Cheek. She was a dedicated member of the First-Centenary United Methodist Church and a member of the Altar Guild where she prepared the sanctuary for the second service until age 94. Elysie was a "people person." She knew the employees at the service station, the grocery store, the country club, the branch bank and they knew her. One Christmas she delivered 20 boxes of clementines to her branch bank for all the staff. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, John W. Cheek, Murray A. Cheek, Ann M. Jones and Louise E. Cheek; nieces, Elizabeth B. Akers and Billie M. Noel. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Carl J. Arnold; and daughter, Carleen A. Wesson (Richard H.
