Homer Van Vleet Jr
Homer Van Vleet Jr., 92, of Spartanburg, S.C., died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Decatur, Ill., he was the son of the late Homer Joseph and Leota Coffin Van Vleet, and husband, for 65 years, of the late Anne Bruce Cartwright Van Vleet. A retired U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Lt. Col. Van Vleet was a member of the Militarys Officer Association of America (MOAA), Daniel Morgan Chapter and Chattanooga Chapter, a member of the Reserve Officer Association and Air Force Association, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and University of Tennessee Lettermans Association. He was an alumnus of the University of Tennessee. Survivors include a son, Richard B. (Donna) Van Vleet, of Chesnee, S.C.; two grandsons, Richard B. (Tami) Van Vleet Jr. and Ryan H. (Katherine) Van Vleet, all of Spartanburg, S.C.; six great-grandchildren, Zack, Zoe, Zayden, Zane, Harrison and Thomas; and one great-great-granddaughter, Braylee Darnell. Visitation will be 2-3:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brian Arant. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O.
