George Willie Fletcher, 86, passed away on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014. He was a faithful member of New Jerusalem. George was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from DuPont after working diligently for 31 years and was the owner of Mercury Cab. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alberta Hewlett; brothers, Arthur and Walter Fletcher, James and Jessie Hewlett; and his son, Alfred "Flap" Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Odell Fletcher; son, Anthony Fletcher; brothers, Alfonzo "AL" and Joseph Hewlett, of Chicago, Ill.; granddaughters, Tenesica Fletcher-Cross, Hollie and Toni Fletcher; grandson, Alfred Jermaine (Christy) Fletcher, of Memphis, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Bailey, Justin, Aston, Loudon, Kaleb, Terriunna, Rihanna; one special great-granddaughter, DeNisha Orr; sisters,-in-law, Bobbie Hall, Katherine Harris, Corrine Matthews, Willie Mae (Alfonso) Western, Emma Jane (Edward) Moore, Mildred Collier; brothers-in-law, Carl (Elaine) Gamble, Jesse Lee (Ruth) Collier, AJ (Diane) Collier; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at New Jerusalem Church with Pastor Thomas Jones officiating. Interment National Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today and the family will receive friends from 67 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
