Dovie Alma Gentle Giles, 88, of East Ridge, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at her residence. She was born to Albert Virgil Gentle and Zula Bedith Pockrus Gentle on May 20, 1925 in Jackson County, Ala. At the age of 22, she married the late Larry Dupre Giles Sr., on May 30, 1947 in Rossville and they lived their married life in Chattanooga. Dovie volunteered with Contact, Memorial Hospital, the Salvation Army and was a loving caregiver. She was also active with the Ex-POWs, Disabled American Vets, and Rockpointe Church in Fort Oglethorpe. Mrs. Giles was employed with Buster Brown and the Boys Club of Chattanooga. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry Dupre Giles Jr.; her parents; sister, Edith Gentle Rousseau; and brother, Cecil Shelby Gentle. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Giles Murdoch and Lincoln Murdoch, of Omaha, Neb.; grandson, Kyle Murdoch; granddaughter, Kristi Murdoch, both of Scottsdale, Ariz. Mrs. Giles was proud of her children and grandchildren and will be truly missed by all. Funeral services will be held at 12:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, with her son-in-law, Pastor Lincoln Murdoch officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
