Nathan Harwood

Nathan Thomas "Big Cat" Harwood, age 11, of Hixson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at his home. He was born June 17, 2002 in Chattanooga. He was a sixth-grade student at Berean Academy where he was a four time Honor Roll student and one time Star Roll student. Big Cat was an avid sportsman having played both baseball and football in the Middle Valley Athletic Association; baseball in the Hixson Athletic Youth Association; he played select with the Chattanooga Fury, the Chattanooga Mustangs, and the Chattanooga Chiefs; he was also involved in football with the Scenic City Football league for three years; basketball for Berean Academy for two years, and soccer for one year. His brother, Ryan Harwood, and grandfather, Carl Janow preceded him in death Survivors include his parents, Thomas and Betty Harwood, of Hixson; sister, Tabitha Harwood, of Hixson; grandparents, Jerry and Vickie Harwood, of Hixson; Jane Janow, of Graysville, Tenn.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Berean Academy Gymnasium, at 441 Berean Lane, Hixson, TN 37343 with Mr. Joey Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Cemetery in Dunlap, Tenn. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. today at the North Chapel and Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. at Berean Academy Gymnasium with.
